Description: Judith Clurman commissioned 16 contemporary composers to write short choral pieces based on the words of 16 American presidents for this collection that combines American history, culture and music. This collection was first featured on NPR during February, 2011. Judith was honored to see it listed as one of the top five works “Presidential” works on New York’s WQXR radio list: Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait, John Adams’ Nixon in China, Steven Stucky’s August 4, 1964, Leonard Bernstein’s White House Cantata, and “Judith Clurman’s project” Sing Out Mr. President.

Description: This was written for Judith Clurman in 2001. In the Jewish tradition, the Song of Songs is associated with love and the coming of spring. This setting is a powerful example of the highly sensual and passionate love poetry. It has long been interpreted by both the Jewish and Christian traditions as an extended allegory for the relationship between God and God's people as well as between two people in love. The text is a combination of Hebrew and English.
